PALS: Professional Assisting Latino Students

Professionals Assisting Latino Students (P.A.L.S.) is a local community group interested in assisting and supporting the education of Latino students in the Bloomington-Normal schools. As an independent, voluntary group of professionals, their mission is to effect change in local schools, community, and society by empowering youth through mentoring and tutoring. They are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children.

Although P.A.L.S. was created and currently is led by a majority of State Farm employees, it is not directly affiliated with or funded by State Farm. Historically, P.A.L.S. has paired volunteer tutors and mentors of varying skills and backgrounds with Hispanic and Latino students (English Language Learners or English dominant students) for one-on-one tutoring and mentoring conducted in the students’ homes.  Our fundamental goal is to help build a better and stronger future for Hispanic and Latino children in our community.
